Henry Dennis was born in Newmarket (Newmarket Q1-1881 3B:637), the son of Eliza DENNIS.
1881 census...William DENNIS aged 3 months was with his unmarried mother Eliza DENNIS at Market Street, Fordham with cousins Robert and Harriet TURNER. 1891 census...Not 100% certain, but Eliza TURNER, married, was housekeeper for John PITCHES at Malta Yard, Fordham but her 11 years old son is named William DENNIS. Eliza's marriage has not been found yet 1901 census...Aged 20, Henry was horseman on farm he was at Market Street, Fordham with John PITCHES [60] farm labourer and Eliza TURNER [57] housekeeper and according to the entry, separated from husband and is the mother of Henry DENNIS. He married Eliza PAMMENT [23-5-1880] in 1903 (Newmarket Q2-1901 3B:1195). 1911 census...Aged 30 Henry was at Carter Street, Fordham, with his wife Eliza [31], born Isleham and their daughters Florence May [30-5-1903] and Mabel Edith [30-5-1908] both born in Fordham. A further child was Herbert Cyril born 19-9-1913. |

He enlisted in Newmarket. The 7th Suffolks had been active along the Bonavis Ridge and at Lateau Wood, achieving their objectives and capturing the enemy's guns, having used tanks effectively. With no Army records found, it is of course impossible to be sure where and when Henry was actually wounded
